TRE®
Tension & Trauma Release Exercises

A body-based approach to releasing deep stress and tension held in the nervous system

Finding a natural way to restore calm to your body and mind

TRE® (Tension & Trauma Release Exercises) is a body-based approach that helps the nervous system release deep muscular tension and stress patterns held in the body.

Rather than analysing experiences or talking through the past, TRE® works directly with the body. Through a series of simple exercises, the body’s natural tremor reflex can activate, allowing stored tension to release in a gradual and self-regulated way.

I offer 1:1 TRE® sessions in Hampshire, supporting people to reconnect with their body, allowing stress and emotional load to release safely and naturally.

TRE® Is A Natural Biological Response

A Natural Biological Response

Tremoring is a natural reflex built into the human nervous system.

You may have seen this response after shock or fear, when the body begins to shake. In the natural world, animals often tremor after a stressful event as a way of releasing survival energy and returning to balance.

Humans have this same biological mechanism. However, in modern life we often suppress this instinctive response. When that happens, the stress energy can remain held in the body.

TRE® gently allows the body to complete that natural process.

Many people experience:

  • deep physical relaxation
  • a quieter mind
  • improved sleep
  • reduced muscular tension
  • a greater sense of ease and grounding

We feel safe ….
We don’t think safe

If we could think our way to not be stressed, we would, but we can’t. Our sense of safety sits in the body and subconscious, not in the conscious mind or upper regions of the brain. Tension & Trauma Release Exercises access our deeper, primitive reflexes, which in turn allows our body to tremor. This natural recovery reflex enables the body to relax the nervous system and release the unconscious neuromuscular tension associated with unresolved stress & trauma.

It’s like pressing the reset button using our body.

Why People Explore TRE®

People often explore TRE® when they are experiencing:

TRE® does not require you to talk about or relive past experiences.

Instead, it works with the body’s innate ability to release what has been held.

The body has its own way of releasing stress once the conditions for safety are in place.

The aim is not to force anything, but to allow the body to move at its own pace.

Over time many people learn how to practice TRE® safely on their own.

What to Expect

Your first session lasts around 90 minutes.

This allows time to:

Many people begin with two or three sessions to become familiar with the practice.

Some people choose to continue with further sessions for support as the body releases deeper patterns of stress or trauma. This process is always guided at a pace that feels safe and manageable for your nervous system.

For some, the work may also naturally expand into Therapeutic Coaching™as we explore what arises through the body.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is TRE®?

TRE® (Tension & Trauma Release Exercises) is a body-based practice that helps the nervous system release deep muscular tension and stress patterns held in the body.

Through a series of simple exercises, the body’s natural tremor reflex can activate. This tremoring allows the body to discharge stress and survival energy in a gradual and self-regulated way.

Yes. Tremoring is a natural reflex within the human nervous system.

During a guided session you will learn how to regulate the tremoring and pause the process whenever needed.

TRE® is introduced gradually so the body can release tension at a pace that feels manageable.

No experience is needed.

The exercises are simple and are introduced step by step during a session. Your body will only tremor if it feels ready to do so.

Many people begin with two or three sessions to become familiar with the practice.

Some people choose to continue with further sessions for support as the body releases deeper patterns of stress or trauma. This process is always guided at a pace that feels safe and manageable for your nervous system.

No.

TRE® works directly with the body rather than through talking or analysing experiences. Some people choose to share what they are noticing, but the focus of the work is on the body’s natural release process.

1:1 TRE® sessions are available in person near Alton in Hampshire, either at my office or at a suitable location within around 40 miles of Four Marks, near Alton.
Sessions are also available online.

Many people explore TRE® when they are experiencing chronic stress, anxiety, burnout or emotional overwhelm. By helping the body release stored tension, TRE® can support the nervous system to settle and return to a greater sense of balance.
